CHARLESTON and Y'ALL

Friday, 4/18 and WHOA!...I, too, got hit with the flu bug but with symptoms not as severe as Tim's. We did make it to historic downtown Charleston and admired the colorful and charming 250 year-old sections of the city. The 1st battle of the Civil War took place at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on 4/12-13/1861. After 34 hours of fighting, the Union surrendered the fort to the Confederates. From 1863 to 1865, the Confederates at Fort Sumter overcame a 22-month siege by Union forces. Our ferry ride and tour of Fort Sumter was memorable. Did you know?... that in 1925, a new dance craze the "Charleston" was launched in the area pubs and dance halls.

Left Charleston late afternoon and, due to time constraints, we bypassed Savannah and ended up in Douglasville, GA, just past Atlanta. 1,580 miles thus far!

Hi ya'll ! It's Saturday, 4/19, and we spent most of the day traveling Hwy 20W across Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Tim says we must keep up our metabolism by snacking on apples, peanut butter and Kashi trail bars. You can see that it helps!......

See the photo of the red pickup...that is towing the pickup...that is towing the car... going 70 mph on the interstate? Never seen anything like it before. Tim says it's a "redneck carpool."
Arrived at Vicksburg and experienced the Riverfront Festival on the Mississippi River. And guess who we bumped into while setting up for a concert?....does anyone remember RICK SPRINGFIELD?? We know that Linda does. Enjoyed a leisurely dinner of grilled pork & beef ribs with vegetables while lodging at the Battlefield Inn. Maybe Karoke tonight?
