Tuesday, 4/15...thus far 445 miles. Heading SE through Richmond and Petersburg, VA regions which have great historical landmarks to explore. 95>460S>13S>.
Went off the beaten path but many shopping conveniences along the way!

Lunch was a winner at the all inclusive "City Wine Sellar, Bakery, Deli & Wine Bar" in quaint Elizabeth City, NC. Cape Hatteras National Seashore stretches 75 miles along the Outer Banks across 3 islands--Bodie, Hatteras & Ocracoke, linked by a narrow paved road and passes through 8 villages. Our intent was to set up camp in the area; however, the sand and wind conditions through the night would have buried us and all we had with us. We drove the picturesque stretch with Tim wishing he was driving one of the "sand" plows. Stayed overnight in Kill Devil Hills and at least were able to use our camping grill for a wonderful steak/vegetable dinner. Still don't know who was booted off American Idol, but feel it's time for Brooke to go.

Still windy but warmer the next day, Wed, 4/16. The Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills was an fascinating attraction and had a full-scale reproduction of the original plane & events leading to 12/17/1903 when Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first successful powered flight. After our tailgate lunch, we hiked the highest sand dunes on the east coast at the Jockey's Ridge State Park.

Departed late afternoon for our next destination....Charleston, SC !
