COTTONWOOD CANYON

Mon, 5/5. Upon retirement, Luis and Mimi plan to relocate from NY to their 200-acre property in Cottonwood Canyon, Co of LaPlata, CO. Living their dream will include a ranch home and a place for trained horses and other animals to be used as pet therapy for children.
Yay...today!...explorer wannabies TimTim and CottonwoodLou will take us on an adventure through the undeveloped wild Cottonwood Canyon property. From Pagosa Springs to Durango is about 60 miles. We find the County Courthouse and search for the property's latitude and longitude, then find a comparable US Geological Survey Map. Eureka!
Must drive to NM back around to CO to reach the property. Five miles off the interstate, off a dirt road, and a sign...bulls on road? The explorers are excited! Survey stakes are found and we begin trekking the landscape of pine, cottonwood and cedar trees, aromatic sage brush, bluffs, caves .... so naturally beautiful and tranquil. There's a mesa where their ranch home will be built.

Numerous animal tracks, among other things, are prominent. Can anyone guess what kind of poop this is?........ (answer at the end of the blog post).
TimTim and CottonwoodLou, compass in hand, navigated the way for us up the rocky bluffs and down into the stream beds. Occasionally we wandered off into Ute Indian Reservation land. That's TimTim's head in the second photo below, not a rock.

From the top of the mesa, that's our car way down there. The explorers are quite happy with what they discovered and claimed in the thick brush.... a deer skull and an elk skull!

Thank you explorers TimTim and CottonwoodLou for our 4+ hour hiking adventure. Good luck to Luis and Mimi as they pursue their dream home and relocation. We will be happy to help!
