GRAND CANYON

Fri, 5/2. Grand Canyon was made a Natl Monument in 1908 and became a Natl Park in 1919. It has an area of over 1,900 square miles and contains 277 miles of the Colorado River. We have both, with our families, experienced this Natural Wonder of the World on the rims and also below on the Colorado River. It seems when we see it again, though, it is more magnificent and beautiful than before and we shared Luis and Mimi's enthusiasm as if it was our very first time here.
The geologic and historic background of the Grand Canyon is overwhelming, so enjoy the photos of sites we thought fascinating as we drove and hiked Desert View Drive on the South Rim.

Sun, 5/3. We can't seem to get enough, so at 4:45 am, Luis is knocking at our door. We throw on warm clothes and drive to scenic Mathers Point and watch the sun rise. AWESOME!

It isn't that the canyon needs to be seen to be believed, but rather that it needs to be seen to be sensed. We leave happy with memories of spectacular views, relaxing accommodations at the Maswik Lodge, and meals at Bright Angel Lodge and El Tovar Hotel.
