UP, UP AND AWAY- PAGOSA SPRINGS

Wed, 5/7. What's blue, red and yellow and lighter than a feather?
Hot air ballooning was an adventure we had not experienced before, so shortly after sunrise, Luis is knocking at our door. We meet at the starting point and muster up our energy for the hands-on participation sport. The balloon (100 feet tall when inflated) is unrolled from its packaging, fans fill it with 240,000 cubic feet of hot air, we jump into the basket, the pilot revs up the fire, then UP...UP...AND AWAY!

We broke the earthly bonds of gravity, floated peacefully, and soaked in the panoramic views.

The adventure is not over once we land...help is needed to deflate and pack up the balloon. We were treated with a talk on the history of ballooning, celebrated our safe return with champagne, and received our personalized flight certificate. Thanks pilot Mike for a beautiful "magic carpet ride."

Thurs, 5/8. Wyndham PAGOSA SPRINGS, southwest CO, is where we have been residing this week. Our unit is extremely comfortable and has an array of amenities. What we enjoy most is checking out the small town charm in the San Juan River Valley surrounded by 3 million acres of National Forest and wilderness.

A FUN place to visit is the Choke Cherry Tree, a food place where they have edible poop! The homemade caramels are dreamy melt-in-your mouth-- needed to go back there 3 times-- kind of candy. That's Grandpa Bill in the photo, who owns the friendly store. The bear was carved out of one maple tree by Bill's brother using a chain saw for the body and a dremel for the face. The bear weighs 2,000 lbs and is "for sale!"

Tim prepared his famous home-cooked dinner for all of us...grilled chicken, spinach, and sweet potatoes. For exercise, we drove into town and found a malt shoppe. Ice cream for dessert!

This is Luis and he is feeling under the weather. Wait until he finds out what we have in store for him on Friday.
